Navaratri (derived from Sanskrit, meaning "nine nights") is a major Hindu festival dedicated to the worship of the Goddess Durga. Spanning nine days and ten nights, it celebrates the triumph of good over evil and culminates on the tenth day with Vijayadashami (or Dussehra). Celebrations include honoring the nine forms of the Goddess over the course of nine days through worship, decorative displays, recitations of sacred legends, dramatic reenactments, and the chanting of Hindu scriptures.
