Dev Deepavali, also known as the “Diwali of the Gods,” is a Hindu festival celebrated in Varanasi on the full moon of the Hindu month of Kartika, about fifteen days after Diwali. It commemorates the victory of Lord Shiva over the demon Tripurasura and honors the gods’ descent to Earth. The ghats of the Ganges are illuminated with thousands of oil lamps, and devotees offer prayers and floating diyas in the river.
